Business Surveillance Cameras and Access Control in Orange County

Hikvision IP cameras, NVR or cloud recording, access control and intercoms designed for your site and installed by the same Telxpress team that builds the network they run on, with 24/7 local support.

  • Cameras on their own secure network segment
  • Remote viewing without open firewall ports
  • Privacy signage and retention guidance included

Telxpress designs and installs IP camera systems, access control and intercoms for businesses across Orange County and Southern California, using Hikvision cameras with on-site NVR or cloud recording. Because we also build the network they run on, cameras get their own secure segment, recordings stay available, and your team can view live and recorded video from any approved device.

NVR (network video recorder) is the on-site appliance that receives video from IP cameras over the network, stores it on its own drives for a set retention period and serves live and recorded footage to the viewing apps. Cloud recording moves that storage to a hosted service instead.

Access control is the system of door controllers, readers and credentials (cards, fobs or phone apps) that decides who can open which door at what time, and keeps a record of every attempt.

Compare your options

NVR, cloud or hybrid recording: which is right for your site?

Where the video lives decides your monthly cost, what happens during an internet outage and how easily several locations can be viewed together.

Comparison of on-site NVR recording, cloud recording and hybrid recording for business surveillance
Consideration On-site NVR Cloud recording Hybrid
Where video is stored A recorder in your telecom room The provider's data centers Locally on the recorder, with selected cameras or clips copied to the cloud
Cost pattern Hardware upfront, no storage subscription Lower upfront, monthly fee per camera Hardware upfront plus a smaller subscription
During an internet outage Keeps recording; remote viewing pauses Cameras with local buffering catch up later; others lose footage Keeps recording locally; cloud copies resume afterward
Retention Set by drive capacity; expand by adding drives Set by plan; longer retention costs more per month Long local retention, shorter off-site copy of what matters
If the recorder is stolen or damaged Footage is lost unless backed up Footage is safe off site Off-site copies of key cameras survive
Several locations One recorder per site, viewed through a shared app One dashboard for every site One dashboard, with local recorders as the primary store
Best fit Single sites with many cameras and limited upload bandwidth Small camera counts, multiple sites, or no telecom room Businesses that want local reliability and off-site protection for entrances and registers

What we install and support

What does a Telxpress surveillance project include?

IP cameras

Hikvision dome, turret, bullet and PTZ cameras chosen for each location: wide views for lobbies and parking, low-light models for exteriors, and discreet units for retail floors.

NVR and cloud recording

On-site recorders sized to your retention period, cloud recording where sites are small or spread out, or a hybrid that keeps local reliability with off-site protection.

Access control

Door controllers, readers, electric strikes and maglocks with cards, fobs or mobile credentials, schedules tied to business hours and an audit trail of every entry.

Intercoms and video doorbells

Entrance intercoms that ring the front desk phone or a mobile app, show the visitor on video and release the door, integrated with the phone system we install.

Monitoring and alerts

Motion, line-crossing and tamper alerts sent to the right people, recorder and camera health checks, and firmware kept current so the system is working when you need it.

Viewing and export

Secure apps for phones and desktops with individual logins and multi-factor authentication (MFA), clip export for insurers or police, and user permissions that match each person's role.

Built on the network we install

How do cameras integrate with the network we install?

Cameras are network devices, and badly installed ones are a common way into a business network. Because Telxpress also designs the switches, firewall and Wi-Fi, every camera system we install gets the same treatment:

  • A dedicated camera VLAN, separate from staff computers, phones and guests.
  • PoE switch ports with enough power budget, and certified Cat6A drops where cabling is missing.
  • Firewall rules so cameras talk only to the recorder, never directly to the internet.
  • Remote viewing through a secure connection with MFA, not through forwarded ports.
  • Default passwords changed, firmware updated on a schedule, and unused services switched off.

Intercoms ring your business phone system, and door events can appear alongside the video they relate to. One team installs and supports all of it.

What are the privacy, signage and retention basics?

A camera system should protect your people and property without creating a privacy problem of its own. We are installers, not lawyers, so we ask every client to confirm the policy below with counsel or HR, and we build the system to match it.

  • Signage. Post clear notices at entrances and in any area under recording. It deters theft and supports the use of footage after an incident.
  • Private spaces. No cameras in restrooms, changing areas, lactation rooms or anywhere people reasonably expect privacy.
  • Audio. Recording conversations raises consent requirements under California law, so most businesses choose video-only cameras and keep any audio plans for counsel to review.
  • Retention. Choose a retention period that fits your insurer, your regulator and your operations, size the storage to it, and let the system overwrite automatically after that.
  • Access. Limit who can view live video, who can review recordings and who can export clips, with individual logins and a record of exports.
  • Industry rules. Clinics, schools, dealerships and financial firms carry extra duties; see our pages for healthcare, education and automotive dealerships.

How it works

How does a surveillance installation run?

Four steps from the first site walk to a trained team, with the network prepared before the first camera goes up.

  1. Site survey and camera plan

We walk the property with you, note entrances, parking, loading areas, registers and sensitive spaces, then place cameras and door hardware on a plan with the field of view each one covers.

  2. Network and power prep

Cameras and door controllers get a dedicated VLAN, PoE switch ports and firewall rules. Where drops are missing, our cabling technicians run and certify them before the cameras arrive.

  3. Install, aim and configure

Cameras are mounted and aimed in daylight and after dark, recording and retention are set on the NVR or cloud service, and alerts, user accounts and MFA are configured for the people who need access.

  4. Train and support

Your team learns to find, review and export footage and to manage credentials. We keep firmware current, monitor recorder health and answer the support line around the clock.

Surveillance questions business owners ask us

Should we record on an NVR or in the cloud?

An on-site NVR keeps recording even when the internet is down and has no monthly storage fee, which suits sites with many cameras. Cloud recording removes on-site hardware, protects footage if the recorder is stolen or damaged, and is easy to share across locations, but depends on upload bandwidth. Many businesses run a hybrid.

How long should we keep surveillance footage?

There is no single rule for private businesses. Retention is usually set by your insurer, your industry's regulator, the time it takes to discover and report an incident, and how much storage you want to buy. We help you pick a retention period, size the recorder or cloud plan to match, and write it into a short policy.

Do we need signs telling people they are being recorded?

We recommend clear signage at every entrance and in any recorded area; it is also what insurers and counsel commonly ask for. Signage deters theft, supports the use of footage after an incident and respects staff and visitors. Avoid cameras in restrooms, changing areas and other spaces where people expect privacy, and confirm your policy with counsel or HR.

Can we see our cameras from a phone when we are away?

Yes. Live and recorded video is available through the recorder's or cloud service's app on approved phones and computers. We set this up through a secure connection with individual logins and MFA rather than opening ports on your firewall, so viewing is convenient for you and closed to everyone else. Access can be revoked per user.

Can access control and cameras work together?

Yes. When a door controller and the camera system are integrated, every badge event can be matched to the video clip of who walked through, which makes investigations quick and removes guesswork. We also tie access schedules to your business hours, issue and revoke credentials from one place, and keep the door hardware on the same protected network segment.
