- Fortinet, Ubiquiti and Cisco Meraki installed and supported
- Segmented networks for guests, cameras and voice
- Monitored and patched by a local team

Telxpress designs, installs and manages business networks for offices across Orange County and Southern California: switching, routing, Fortinet firewalls, Ubiquiti and Cisco Meraki Wi-Fi, and segmentation that keeps guests, cameras and phones apart. We also monitor what we install, so problems are seen and fixed before your team notices a slow or dropped connection.

**Network segmentation** is the practice of splitting one physical network into separate virtual networks (VLANs) so that guest devices, cameras, printers, phones and staff computers cannot see each other, which limits how far a compromised device can reach.

**Managed network** means a provider, not your office staff, is responsible for watching the network, applying updates, keeping backups of every device's configuration and responding when something fails, under an agreement with defined response times.

What we install and support

## What does a business network from Telxpress include?

### Switching and PoE

Business-grade switches with Power over Ethernet for phones, cameras, access points and meeting-room gear, sized for the drops in your building with room to grow.

### Routing and the internet edge

Routing between your circuits and your network, with failover between a primary and backup connection so a carrier outage does not stop calls, payments or cloud applications.

### Fortinet firewalls

FortiGate firewalls with intrusion prevention, web filtering, application control, VPN for remote staff and logging, configured for your business rather than left at defaults.

### Wi-Fi: Ubiquiti and Cisco Meraki

Access points placed from a site survey, not a guess, with separate staff and guest networks, roaming that holds a call across the office, and cloud dashboards for visibility.

### Segmentation for guests, IoT and voice

VLANs and firewall rules that keep visitors, cameras, smart devices, printers and phones apart from staff computers and servers, with voice traffic prioritized.

### Managed network and monitoring

Alerts on outages and failing links, scheduled firmware and security updates, configuration backups and a named local team that responds, all under one agreement.

## Who should run your network?

Buyers usually weigh three paths: consumer gear that nobody watches, business equipment run by in-house staff, or a managed network from an integrator. Here is how they differ in practice.

AI and cloud

## Is your network ready for AI and cloud?

AI voice agents, cloud phone systems, video meetings and AI-enabled meeting rooms all run across the network and all fail in the same way when it is weak: dropped calls, frozen video, and tools your team stops trusting. Network readiness is the first thing we check in the [free AI readiness assessment](https://telxpress.com/ai-readiness/) and a standing part of our [AI advisory engagements](https://telxpress.com/ai-advisory/).

What a ready network looks like:

- Dependable bandwidth with a backup path, so a single carrier outage does not take down calls and meetings. Our [connectivity team](https://telxpress.com/solutions/business-technology/connectivity/) sources the circuits and SD-WAN.
- PoE switching and quality-of-service for phones, cameras and [meeting-room AV](https://telxpress.com/solutions/business-technology/audio-visual/), so voice and video are never stuck behind a large download.
- Segmentation for smart displays, cameras and devices that ship with weak defaults.
- Remote access through a firewall VPN with multi-factor authentication (MFA), never through an open port.
- Monitoring, so you learn about a problem from us, not from a customer.

Where to start

Take the ten-question assessment and the network section tells you what to fix first, or book a consultation and we walk the site with you.

## What are the security basics every office network needs?

Most incidents we see start with something simple. These are the basics we put in place on every network we manage, whatever the size of the business.

- **A business firewall with current security services.** Intrusion prevention, web filtering and logging only help when the subscriptions are active and the rules reflect your business.
- **A patching schedule.** Firewalls, switches and access points receive firmware and security updates on a calendar, with a configuration backup taken first.
- **MFA on every admin login and remote connection.** Dashboards, firewall consoles and VPN accounts all require a second factor, and shared passwords are retired.
- **Separate networks for guests and devices.** Visitors, cameras, printers and smart devices never share a segment with staff computers or servers.
- **Least privilege.** Staff and vendors get the access their job needs and nothing more, and accounts are removed when people leave.
- **Documentation.** Addressing plans, VLAN maps, device inventories and credentials stored in a managed vault, so a new technician can find anything.

For regulated industries we align these controls with the rules that apply to you, such as HIPAA for [healthcare](https://telxpress.com/industries/healthcare/), the FTC Safeguards Rule for [automotive dealerships](https://telxpress.com/industries/automotive-dealerships/) and GLBA for [financial services](https://telxpress.com/industries/financial-services/).

How it works

## How does a managed network engagement run?

From the first site walk to the regular review, one local team is accountable for the network.

1. 01
### Survey and design
We walk the site, count devices and drops, test Wi-Fi coverage, review the internet circuits and list what runs on the network today: phones, cameras, meeting rooms, printers, point of sale.
2. 02
### Install and configure
Switches, firewall and access points go in with a documented addressing plan, VLANs for voice, guests, cameras and staff, firewall rules between them, and remote access protected by MFA.
3. 03
### Monitor and patch
We watch the network for outages, failing links and unusual traffic, apply firmware and security updates on a schedule, and keep configuration backups so a failed device is replaced, not rebuilt.
4. 04
### Review and adjust
Regular reviews tie the network to what the business plans next: a new location, more cameras, AI meeting rooms or a cloud migration, so capacity and security stay ahead of demand.

## Networking questions business owners ask us

**Do we need a firewall if we already have a router from our internet provider?**

A carrier router mainly passes traffic; it is not built to inspect it, block threats or report what happened. A business firewall such as a Fortinet FortiGate adds intrusion prevention, web filtering, VPN for remote staff and logs you can act on. We configure it, keep its security services current and review it with you.

**Ubiquiti or Cisco Meraki: which should we choose?**

Both are dependable business Wi-Fi platforms we install and support. Cisco Meraki is managed entirely from a cloud dashboard with subscription licensing and vendor support contracts, which suits multi-site businesses. Ubiquiti UniFi offers strong value without a required recurring license and fits single offices and smaller budgets. We recommend based on your sites, staff and growth plans.

**Why should guest Wi-Fi, cameras and phones be on separate networks?**

Because a problem on one should not reach the others. A visitor's laptop, a camera with old firmware or a printer should never be able to see your file server or your phones. Separate VLANs with firewall rules between them contain incidents, keep voice traffic clear of downloads, and make compliance reviews simpler to pass.

**What does a managed network service from Telxpress include?**

We monitor the switches, firewall and access points we install, apply firmware and security updates on a schedule, keep configuration backups, and respond when an alert fires, often before anyone in the office notices. You get a named local team, a documented network, and regular reviews that tie upgrades to what your business plans next.

**What makes a network ready for AI tools and cloud applications?**

Enough dependable bandwidth with a backup path, so meetings and AI voice calls keep working if one circuit fails; PoE switching and quality-of-service for phones and meeting-room gear; segmentation for cameras and smart devices; MFA-protected remote access; and monitoring. We check all of this in the free AI readiness assessment before recommending any AI deployment.
